Hair B Gone

We did it. We finally got B's haircut. After 20 months of life it was time. It wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. Mark did have to take charge of telling the stylist how much to cut because I wanted about 1/4 of an inch cut off. LOL! Mark informed me that unless we wanted to come back in 2 weeks then we needed to have more cut. Barrett was less than thrilled to be getting his haircut and cried through most of it. Luckily I brought 2 lollipops which helped for the first five or so minutes at which point he had devoured them. (Note to self: bring 5 lollipops next time) Hopefully, with his new "boy" haircut, he won't be called a girl by strangers anymore which has happened at least 4 times.

Mr. Shaggy
He was crying before it even started!

Doing okay here

Woohoo! Lollipop!

Okay this isn't so bad. Note lollipop drool on chin and cape.

Wahhhhhh! Between cries he would say "I hold you" and hold his arms out. It was breaking my heart.

Yay! No more shaggy hair!

All is well once ice cream enters the picture.

It's time..sniff, sniff

We were planning to wait until Barrett was at least 2 to get his first haircut. However, his hair is so long that we are going to take him on Saturday to get it cut. It hangs in his eyes so it is time. I'm sad about it...mostly because it's just another step into big boy world and away from baby world. All you moms know what I'm talking about. Over the last 2 weeks we've said we are going to take him but then we chicken out but we are really planning to do it on Saturday. I'm even going to call the kiddie haircut place and make an appointment so that we will be less likely to back out. :) We are just going to get it trimmed so it will still be "long" for boy standards so hopefully that will make it less traumatic for him....er....me.

His flowing locks are impeding his paint with water ability!!

Already??

Tonight at dinner, Barrett was not interested in his food...at all. He's been sick all day (high fever, trip to the doctor, ear and viral infections, medicines, 2 naps, tons of cuddles, etc.) so it wasn't that surprising that he didn't want to eat. So the conversation goes something like this.

Steph: "Whoever eats really well, gets a special treat after dinner." (I made Jell-o pudding but he didn't know that)
Barrett: "I ice cream."
Mark: "Barrett you need to eat 3 more bites of your food to have a treat."
Barrett: "Daddy, babble babble babble, one bite!" He is emphatically holding up 1 finger and showing Mark.
Mark: "No, Barrett I said 3 bites."
Barrett: "Daddy, 1 bite."

This went through at least 5 iterations. Ultimately, Mark fed the 3 bites to Barrett and after each one he'd say "I ice cream". He finally made it to 3 and got pudding, which in his world is ice cream. They're similar right?? I was cracking up and had to hide my face. I can't believe he is already negotiating this at the age of 20 months. What's next?
" No Dad, I don't want anymore food"
Negotiations

Mark feeding him the 3 dreaded bites

" Fine, but I'm washing it down with milk."

"See Mama, I'm done with my 3 bites"

"Mmmmm, no one has to force me to eat 3 bites of this"

"Cheese"

Happy 4th!

We had a pretty busy holiday weekend. On Thursday night, we went to Founders Park in the great city of Wylie and watched fireworks. For being a "small" town, they put on a really good show.

Friday morning we woke up EARLY and headed to Austin for the weekend. Our first stop was at the home our good friends, Stacey and Richard. Stacey and I met at A&M and even though she married a longhorn and went to the dark side I still love her!!! And we love Richard too! The last time I was in Austin was for Stacey's baby shower in February. Lo and behold she had her baby just a few days after the shower...way early! I was excited to finally meet baby August. He is sooooo cute.

After lunch, we headed to Barton Creek Resort to meet up with our other friends, Mark & Erin, and Kirk & Val. We stayed at a house there for the weekend and had a great time catching up, hanging out and meeting each others kids. Saturday night we cooked out at the house and our other friends Matt & Jenny joined us. Mark, Kirk, my Mark, Matt and I all went to high school together so we had a blast getting back together and are already planning the next group trip....

Happy Birthday USA!

Mr. Ryan (Mark and Erin's oldest son. We met 4 month old Luke too. Such a doll!)

All tuckered out...

What happens in Vegas....goes on the blog!

Well not everything! We went to Vegas a few weeks ago with our friends Austin and Diana. It was a milestone because it was our first trip away from Barrett together. We have each traveled seperately but never together. Aunt Mona came to stay with Mr. B so we know he was better taken care of then when we are here. :) She's just that good.

While in Vegas, Austin and Diana renewed their vows (17 years of marriage for those two) at the Graceland Chapel. The ceremony was performed by the King! It was chock full of cheesy vows such has "I'll always be your hunka hunka burning love" and "I'll never give you a suspicious mind." It was hysterical! We weren't allowed to take pictures inside but don't fear...there was a professional photographer and Austin & Diana ordered a picture package and DVD so we can relive the moment over and over. We also saw KA which was an amazing Cirque du Soleil show. We ate lots of yummy food and went dancing at Studio 54 with a bunch of twenty somethings. We didn't last long there. :)

Our summer thus far...in pictures

Wearing Daddy's socks and shoes

Relaxing in the indoor blow up pool which hasn't made it outside yet

Eating Jello pudding

Playing in the sprinkler with Sophie! These two are little BFF's

Goofing off at the park

More goofing at the park...scaring Daddy. We look scary, right?

Swinging at the park

Reading. Oh how we love to read.

Looking for bellybuttons

Eating...B and I met Mark at Cantina Laredo one day for lunch and we ordered guacamole. After Barrett ate it on a few chips, he pulled the bowl to him and put a spoon in it. Definitely our kid.

Chillin' in the car with shades on. He is surprisingly good at keeping them on. He sometimes asks for them if it's really bright.

Southpaw?

We are pretty sure Barrett will be a lefty just like Mark. He does almost everything left handed, especially sports. Mark already tells him how much more difficult it will be for him to find left handed sporting equipment. Luckily Mark found a toddler sized glove for a lefty!!

First game of catch with a glove. Obviously we haven't quite enforced no ball playing in the house.

Proud owner of a new ball and glove.

Bye bye little Bird

Barrett moved up in his Little Gym class. He is now a Beast! These pics are from his last class as a Bird. I couldn't get that many shots since I have to watch him like a hawk since he climbs on everything and Mark couldn't make it to take pictures. Barrett loves going to Little Gym. I can't tell what he loves most - the songs, the climbing, the bubbles?!

Rockclimbing wall

On the beam with help from Miss Courtney. He does forward rolls on the beam too!

Walking on the little beam

About to jump onto the springboard...backwards of course

Derby....delayed

In typical Malhiot fashion, we blog every few months. We tried chanting "we will blog, we will blog" every night but it didn't work. It is pretty much when we get around to it, which isn't all that often.

We go to Kentucky every May for the Derby. Steph is from Kentucky and almost all of her extended family is there so it's a great time to see everyone, have fun and enjoy the festivities. This year we went to Oaks which is the races held the Friday before Derby. Aunt Tina and Uncle Mike were gracious enough to give us tickets in their box so we enjoyed the day out there with them!
