B's Buzz 04.22.08

Two big milestones today! First, Barrett's second tooth has cut through his gum. It is right next to the first tooth that came in. Second, he is sitting all by himself! Yay Barrett! He is still a little wobbly at times, especially when he sees a toy that's a little bit out of reach and tries to go for it.

Mommy and Daddy made this fun play area for me to sit and play with my toys. It's nice and soft. So much better than the hardwood floor.

Could I be any cuter? I'm just sayin.

Touchdown!!!

Aggie Muster

For all you non-Aggies, Muster is an A&M tradition that occurs every year on April 21st. For all you non-Texans, April 21st is the anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto where Texas won its independence from Mexico. Wherever they are, Aggies get together to remember old times and to commerate those Aggies who have passed away in the prior year. There are over 400 official Aggie Musters worldwide. Last night we took Barrett to his first Aggie Muster. Former Texas A&M Head Football Coach Jackie Sherrill was the speaker and afterwards we met him!

Class of 2030 - Whoop!

When I grow up...

I will either be a CPA like Mommy. Look how good I am at the ten key (or tinker as Daddy calls it)!!

OR I will be Daddy's caddy when he makes it on the Senior PGA tour.

Our other kid...

Poor Sadie is no longer the center of attention now that Barrett is here. As Barrett gets older he is more and more fascinated by her and she is by him as well. Barrett will probably grow up calling Sadie "sister" because that's what we call her when talking to him. :)

Hooray for the new camera!

The new camera was finally delivered! It is much fancier than our old one so we definitely have alot to learn. We ordered a book with the camera but we haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Here are a few pictures of Barrett taken with it.

I love bananas!

I'm a messy eater so then I have to take a bath.

I love staring at my sister (the dog).

My daddy cracks me up - what a jokester!

B's Buzz 04.16.08

I'd ordered some freezing trays and food storage containers and they finally arrived so today I made apples and bananas for Barrett! He liked the apples okay but he LOVED the bananas. He ate 1/4 of a banana. That might not sound like a lot but it is when you are a tiny little thing like him. He kept sticking out his tongue and pulling the spoon towards his mouth to eat more.

I figure that since I'm home more now that I should give making food for him a shot. If you know me, then you know that I really do not like cooking/baking/anything "kitchen-y" at all. Thankfully, I have a husband that loves to cook! When Mark travels, I eat cereal. No lie. So of course today I couldn't figure out the food processor (I really do think it is broken), so I had to use this little smoothie maker thing that I actually know how to use! I also used the steamer to soften the apples before pureeing (<- is that a word?) them. It actually wasn't too hard and I like knowing exactly what he is eating. I'm excited to try other foods for him too.

I will post pictures in a few days. Our camera is not working properly (add that to the list of things) and we ordered a new one. It's supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Yay! Once I figure out how to use it I'll post some pictures.

Does it ever let up??

Things are so busy right now. Mark is out of town. I had jury duty yesterday, as well as the tax deadline. You'd think being a CPA I might file early but no of course not. We filed ours yesterday and I spent Monday evening finishing up another return for a family member. Nothing like the last minute right?? Work is crazy busy - trying to learn my new position and audits in full swing with the other.
Our double oven went out and we got the quote this morning - $550. The guy is coming back later today to actually fix it b/c he didn't have the part with him. The washer was on the fritz too but it is under warranty so it was free to have it fixed. It's been out for 6 days so now I'm busy trying to catch up on laundry.
Aunt Mona came over today to play with Barrett so I could work and get caught up on things. Thank you Mona!!! Mark comes back tonight so that will be very helpful too.
I'm just ready for a little break!

Date night

Mark and I went on a date to Ft Worth last night. Guess what we did??? We saw Ronnie Milsap at the Will Rogers Auditorium. Yep, you read that correctly RONNIE MILSAP. We saw him last year in Kansas City and just had to go again. First of all, this was a great venue to see a concert. It seats about 2600 people and we were on the 10th row in the center. Excellent seats. Second, if you have never seen him live, he is really, really good. Really good. I've always been a huge fan of his and after seeing him in Kansas City last year, Mark said that if given the chance to see him again live, he would definitely do it. It's amazing how after all these years his voice is still so crystal clear. If you don't know who Ronnie Milsap is (Staci) then you should look him up and most likely you will know some of his songs. He's had 40 #1 hits, won 7 Grammys and 4 CMAs. Oh, he's also blind yet plays the piano incredibly. He was very personable and talked about hanging out with Elvis in the Jungle room and playing on his records. He joked about writing a tell all book about Elvis and titling it "I Didn't See a Thing". Funny...

Barrett spent the evening with Nana and Poppy and had so much fun playing and singing. Thanks Nana and Poppy!!!

Storms are not fun

In the wee hours of the morning we were startled to hear the home phone ringing. It was about 3:45 AM and as soon as we saw that it was Aunt Mona calling we immediately heard the storm sirens going off. Thank you for waking us up a bit early Mona!! We knew bad weather was headed our way but weren't quite sure when it would hit. We grabbed Barrett and Sadie (our doggie), some blankets and our cell phones and camped out in the closet under our stairs. It only lasted about 15 minutes and luckily we had no damage and our power came back on almost immediately. Things are so much scarier when you have a child because you know that you can protect yourself for the most part but when you have to worry about protecting a child it adds a whole new layer to your fears. Thankfully we are all okay.

B's Buzz 04.08.08

Okay so here's what we are going to do. Every so often we are going to post about Barrett's latest milestones, stats, etc. We are going to call it "B's Buzz" because we call him B all the time. So here is the first installment of B's Buzz.

Barrett cut his first tooth last Saturday. We had family pictures and he was drooling like you would not believe and was fussy when we got home. Steph put some Orajel on his gums before his nap and sure enough there was a tiny tooth poking through! If you look closely you can see it in the picture. It's his bottom right one in the front.

He loves grabbing things and reaches for anything that you put in front of him. He loves grabbing our faces and especially Mark's glasses. He has been eating baby oatmeal once a day for the past few days. At first he hated it and would purse his lips and not even let me get the spoon in his mouth. He opens his mouth now but most of the oatmeal ends up back on his bib or clothes! He sat in his high chair for the first time today! He's so happy.

Current stats:

  • ~15.5lbs
  • 27 inches long
  • 3-6 month clothing
  • Malhiot head
  • Favorite toy is a chewy giraffe

Meet Barrett

Our son's name is Barrett. He is 5 months old and such a blessing and joy in our lives. We thank God each and every day for allowing us to be the parents of this wonderful child.

We finally set up a blog

Well we have finally decided to set up a blog. Several friends have told us how easy it is so we are giving it a try! It will be a nice way to post pictures and update everyone with what is going on with us. Then we don't have to beat you all down with emails of pictures of Barrett. :) You can just visit our blog! Now the trick is keeping up with it...
