Feeding the ducks

Last week Barrett and I went to fBreckinridge Park to feed the ducks. I explained to Barrett that we would be feeding bread to the ducks. Apparently he did not understand!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you see?

Barrett is very into his books right now. We read books all the time and go to storytime at the library. It's paying off because this is often how I find him. When he doesn't have his nuk in he sits and babbles as he turns pages. It's so cute.

Gig 'em

Being that we are big Aggie football fans and since we missed the first game (thankfully!) for Shane's wedding in Boston, we decided a while back to go to New Mexico for the A&M game. We flew to Albuquerque on Friday. We took the Sandia Peak Tramway up to 10,000 feet. It's the world's largest aerial tramway. It took about 15 minutes each way in a little cable car. I'd done it before when I was 14 but gladly did it again because the view is spectacular.

We went to the game on Saturday and it was so hot! There was not a cloud in the sky and the sun was beating down on us. At halftime we moved under a huge shade tree so that Barrett could have a little freedom and some shade. He wore 50 SPF sunscreen so he didn't get burned at all. :) This was Barrett's first football game out of the belly so we were glad the Aggies won. We might not take him to any other games this season so that we can keep his record perfect and this season is shaping up to be a very loooonnnng season for the Ags. ;)

On Sunday we drove to Santa Fe (about an hour drive) and turns out they were having their Fiesta to celebrate the birthday of Santa Fe. We checked out the street vendors, had lunch and bought some of those cinnamon roasted almonds. Yum! We also visited the San Miguel Mission which is the oldest church in the US and the Loretto Chapel which is home of the Miraculous Spiral Staircase. Again, I'd already done these things but if you know me well you know that my last trip to Santa Fe didn't go so well for me. I don't remember alot of the details from that trip so it was nice to do it again. We drove up the mountain in Santa Fe which was a 14 mile drive each way. We saw so much beautiful scenery and stopped to take pics at one of the scenic turn outs.

We ate lunch at La Fonda because it reminds us of Napoleon Dynamite and we love that movie.

Boston

So after we went to NYC we took the train to Boston. We stayed in Boston for about 4 days. We'd never been to Boston so we did alot of the touristy things - Duck Boat Tour, Fenway, the Aquarium, Boston Common. The reason for our trip in the first place was our good friend Shane's wedding in Boston. He is one of our friends from A&M and he got married on Saturday in Worcester, MA which is about an hour outside of Boston. The wedding was awesome and Shane and his wife Laurel are a beautiful couple.

B's Buzz 09.10.2008

Barrett is a little over 10 months old now. It's hard to believe that his first birthday is around the corner. He looks more and more like a little boy every day. He has changed so much in the past few months.

Mobility - He furniture walks and pushes toys all around the house. He is standing unassisted more and more every day. He is definitely a climber. He tries to climb up on anything and everything that he can. If you are sitting next to a table, he will climb on your legs and climb up on the table.

Talking - He is babbling constantly and has recently started saying dog-dog. It sounds like daow-daow but he looks at Sadie when he says it so we know he means dog. He gives attitude with a little fuss sound if you tell him No.

Eating - He eats or at least tries alot more adult food now. He loves mixed veggies, crackers, yogurt, Gerber puffs, cheerios, cheese, turkey, fruit, etc. He is a good eater! He loves feeding himself so we try to give him a lot of finger foods. He still nurses about 5 times a day and we plan to keep it up until he turns 1.

Toys - His favorite toys are my laptop and Blackberry. He loves playing chase with Daddy upstairs in the hallway. He chases Mark right after Mark chases him.

Random skills - He high fives and gives kisses. He likes to kiss inanimate objects more than people. He kisses his toys, the Blackberry, shoes, etc.


Stats: 20.8lbs, about 29 inches, size 3 diapers, still in 6-9 month clothes, alot more hair, absolutely adorable (totally biased of course!)

The Big Apple

At the end of August we took a family trip to New York City and Boston. We were gone for 6 days which was our longest family trip since Barrett has been born (Florida was only 4 days). Packing for 6 days was definitely a challenge but we got it done and miraculously didn't have to pay any airline fees for extra bags! We arrived on Tuesday and headed to the Central Park Zoo. Barrett was wiped out and fell asleep in his stroller before we even got to the zoo and he slept through the whole thing. He woke up on the way to FAO Schwarz where everyone in the family got a toy! That night we had dinner with our friend Nim who lives down near Battery Park. We ate at a great, outdoor Italian restaurant that overlooked the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The weather was fabulous!

On Wednesday we took a tour of Radio City Music Hall where Barrett met a Rockette! We goofed around Rockefeller Plaza after that and had our celebrity sighting of the trip (I'm 3 for 3 on celeb sightings when visiting NYC). We saw Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin filming 30 Rock. We walked around Times Square, checked out Bryant Park (we love Project Runway), and then headed to the Yankees game. The Yankees played the Red Sox and it was the 2nd to last Yankees vs. Red Sox game ever to be played at Yankee Stadium. We informed Barrett that this game would be the pinnacle of his baseball watching career. Too bad he's only 10 months old and won't remember it a bit! Thursday morning we hopped on a train (first time for Mark and Barrett) and headed up to Boston. It took about 4 hours and we stayed close to the coast and went through Connecticut and Rhode Island. It was really pretty.
